Bookkeeping services by city
and province in Canada.
We work with small businesses in every province, entirely online — no local offices, no in-person visits. Your province decides how your sales tax gets filed: one harmonized return, GST only, or a second return to the province on its own schedule. Find your city or province below.

Remote Across Canada
How remote bookkeeping works
across provinces.
Outsource Bookkeeping is operated from Ontario and serves businesses across Canada online. There are no branch offices and no provincial teams. Bank feeds, receipts, and month-end statements move through QuickBooks Online or Xero, and CRA accepts sales tax returns filed electronically from anywhere in the country. That is why your postal code changes neither the price nor the delivery date — $500/month flat, or $350/month if you are under 50 transactions a month, with CRA-ready reports by the 10th.
What your province does change is the filing. Sales tax in Canada is not one system. In some provinces you file a single harmonized return with CRA. In Alberta there is no provincial sales tax to file at all. In British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba you register separately with the province and file a second return on its own schedule. Quebec administers its own tax through Revenu Québec. The breakdown below shows which situation applies to you.
Why Province Matters
Sales tax by province,
and who you file with.
Your province decides how many sales tax returns you file and which government receives them. Four situations cover every province.
One HST return, filed with CRA
Ontario · Nova Scotia · New Brunswick · Newfoundland and Labrador · Prince Edward Island
Harmonized provinces fold the 5% federal GST and a provincial component into a single tax. Ontario's rate is 13% — 5% federal plus 8% provincial. One registration, one return, one CRA portal, and no separate provincial filing. The four Atlantic provinces are harmonized too, so the filing works the same way there: one combined return to CRA at that province's HST rate.
GST only, no provincial return
Alberta
Alberta has no provincial sales tax. Businesses collect and remit the 5% federal GST and nothing else, on one return to CRA. It is the simplest sales tax position in the country — which does not make the rest of the books simpler. Reconciliation, payroll journal entries, and the year-end package still have to be right.
Two returns, two governments
British Columbia · Saskatchewan · Manitoba
These provinces never harmonized. You file the 5% federal GST with CRA, then a second provincial return on its own schedule: 7% PST to the BC Ministry of Finance, 6% PST to Saskatchewan Finance, or 7% RST to Manitoba Finance. Two registrations, two deadlines, two sets of remittances to reconcile at month end.
Quebec files through Revenu Québec
Quebec
Quebec charges 5% GST plus 9.975% QST, and for most businesses both are administered by Revenu Québec rather than CRA. Different portal, different account numbers, different forms. If you sell in Quebec and elsewhere, the two systems have to be tracked separately in your books from the first month.
Whichever of these applies to you, the sales tax work is part of the flat monthly rate rather than an add-on. Pick your province hub below for the rules where you operate, or your city for local context.
